North Olympic Church of Christ

Who Are We?

Who Are We?

The North Olympic Church of Christ is an assembly of God's people drawn together by the common faith in Jesus Christ and submission to His will in all things.

Our assembly is a Church of Christ on the Olympic Peninsula, a Church of Christ in Port Angeles, Washington.

While the fellowship is voluntary, it is much more than a lodge or fraternity, for to become part of the church is to become a Christian with a personal committal to active fellowship with those of like precious faith .. even it it costs our death. (Rev. 2:11)

As individuals we wear the name "Christian" (Acts 11:26, 26:28, I Pet 4:16) and it is our firm desire to strive to attain to everything implied in that name.

We are to abstain from every appearance of evil, that no stain, sport or reproach be brought against the One who died for us (I Thess. 5:22).  Mindful of the proneness of man to sin, we confess our faults to one another and admonish one another to greater efforts in the cause of Christ (Jas. 5:16-20, Acts 19:18).  We seek to build each other up and not tear one another down to better ourselves (Gal. 5:15, I Thess. 5:11).

Our government is that of a kingdom, with Christ serving as the King (Col. 1:13).  Still, we are an independent, self-sufficient, self-governing body with no denominational affiliation, earthly headquarters or ties.

The highest governing authority resides in each local congregation (II Cor. 9:8, I Cor. 5:12, Eph. 4:16).  We pray and labor towards the goal for all believers on Christ to be one IN Him (John 17:20-21).  It is our desire to lead men everywhere away from human creeds and manuals which divide those who would wish to follow God.

Our plea is for all to content themselves with just the Bible as the sole religious standard and to appreciate that the Lord's displeasure is manifested against all departures therefrom (II John 9-10, II Tim. 3:16-17).

Our worship is conducted n a simple and orderly manner with only those acts authorized in the Bible - either by command, example, or necessary inference.  We edify each other in song (Eph.5:10), preach and teach the Word of God (Acts 5:42) and render heart-felt prayers to our heavenly Father (Jas. 5:16).

The Lord's supper is faithfully observed by the members each Lord's Day in which we remember the death and resurrection of Jesus (Acts 20:7).  The work of the church is carried out by our free will, giving on the first day of the week (I Cor. 16:2)  Not forgetting Paul's admonition in I Tim. 2:12, the church permits only faithful men to teach.  We do not wink a the women's lib movement and our sisters are instructed in the teaching of I Cor. 11:1-16 and I Cor. 14:34-35.

The Bible teaching on modesty for both sexes is not neglected.

Our mission on earth is spiritual and we do not follow a "social gospel" of church parties, etc., which cater to the fleshly desires of the materialistically minded instead of following Christ's example of seeking and saving the Lost (Heb. 13:9, Rom. 14:17).

Out of conviction we stand opposed to missionary and benevolent societies, the "Herald of Truth" and all other sponsoring church setups.

Membership in the church is obtained exactly the same way it was in the 1st century ... by obeying the Gospel (Mark 16:16, Acts 2:38, I Cor. 12:13).

Visiting us, you will be our welcomed and honored guest as we together study God's wonderful Word.
